Brown Sugar Ice Cream

Brown Sugar Ice Cream Creamy vanilla homemade ice cream is my absolute favorite. But I like to mix things up a bit every once in a while. Creating a slighting richer ice cream with brown sugar is one way to do that. Why brown sugar instead of white sugar? Brown sugar is simply white sugar with the addition of molasses. The molasses in brown sugar gives a deep caramel or subtle toffee flavor....

Buttermilk Syrup

Homemade Syrup While my cousin Hannah was visiting me in Phoenix several years ago, we tried out some new restaurants. One of the meals we enjoyed most involved waffles with buttermilk syrup. I have a weakness for great homemade syrup and sauces, as evidenced by the popularity of my grandmother’s Waffle Sauce and this Brown Sugar Syrup. However, I’d never tasted a buttermilk syrup before that day. As soon as we were home, I told Hannah we needed to figure out how to make Buttermilk Syrup....

Caramelized Onions In The Crockpot

I’d previously intended to prep and freeze or dehydrate them, but this has changed everything. Perfectly caramelized onions were created with little to no effort on my part. I may never use a skillet for this task again. I filled a 4 quart crockpot to the top with sliced onions and it reduced to a perfectly filled pint jar of caramelized onions. I will be doing this again over the weekend and freezing the caramelized onions in 1 cup portions to use as I need them....
