Mumbai Masala Toast Sandwich is very popular snack across Mumbai. You will find them at all corners and stalls in Mumbai and that is one of the staple food for people traveling a long way from their home to office.
Other than Mumbai, this type of sandwich is very popular in Rajkot (City of Gujarat). There are many shops and vendors selling this sandwich in Rajkot but Balaji is the most famous shop Rajkot located on Lakhajiraj road in old town, they have been running this shop since last many years and due to their popularity, this sandwich is well known as Balaji Sandwich there. Their Potato Chips are famous too, not just in Gujarat but all over India and Abroad too.
How to make street style Mumbai Masala Toast Sandwich??
Well, it’s a pretty easy process. First, prepare mashed potato masala. Put prepared potato masala, sliced onion and capsicum between two bread slices, sprinkle some Chaat masala and cook for few minutes in the toaster. You can add cheese too. That’s it!! It is different from regular veggie toast sandwich.
They are my favorite. Mumbai Masala Toast Sandwich is also known as Aloo toast sandwich. This sandwich is filling to your stomach. So you can make this for dinner or weekend brunch. This is perfect for kids lunchbox, as a party appetizer or for road trips.
Brief recipe for Masala Toast Sandwich
For Potato Masala
- Heat oil in a pan. Add Mustard seeds, curry leaves, and green peas. Saute for a few seconds.
- Now add ginger, green chili, salt, garam masala, and turmeric powder. Saute for 2 to 3 minutes.
- Add boiled potatoes. Mix it very well and cook them for 2 more minutes over medium heat.
- Now add lemon juice, mix well and switch off the flame.
- Let the potato mixture cools down completely. Let’s Make.
- Take 2 slices of bread. Apply green chutney.
- Put potato mixture, slices of bell pepper and a slice of onion. You may add tomatoes too. I skipped that as i don’t like the taste of cooked tomatoes in my sandwiches. Sprinkle some chaat masala. (Forgot to mention chaat masala in the video).
- Place another slice of bread on top. Apply some butter on top.
- Place this sandwich in a toaster (Butter side down). Apply butter on top.
- Close the lid and toast the sandwich until its golden brown in color.
- That’s it!! Mumbai Masala Toast Sandwich is ready. Serve this green chutney and tomato ketchup.
