It is served with Idli, Dosa, Pongal or even with rice. Sambar with rice is one of the main course in everyday South Indian meals. It can be made with any vegetables. I love my Sambhar with lots of vegetables. Choose vegetables according to your liking.

How to make Sambar / Sambhar?

  1. Heat oil in a pan. Add mustard seeds, let it splutter and add Urad dal and fenugreek seeds powder. Add curry leaves. Saute it for a few seconds.

  2. Add Chopped mixed vegetables. Saute them for 3 to 4 minutes. Add Salt, Sambar powder, chili powder and turmeric. Mix them very well.

  3. Add boiled and crushed dal with water. Mix well.

  4. Add tamarind juice and let the dal boil for 10 – 15 minutes over medium heat. Adjust the consistency according to your preference. If you like thin Sambar, add more water. Add chopped cilantro.

  5. Sambar / Sambhar is ready. Serve it hot with Idli, Dosa, Uttapam or With Rice.
