During festive occasions like Diwali, Thanksgiving, or Christmas, I like to get creative and make unique and fun mocktails to add an extra special touch to my dinner parties. Having a delicious, non-alcoholic drink on the menu allows everyone to enjoy it, whether they drink alcohol or not. A few of my favorite drink recipes from the blog are the Hibiscus margarita, Pineapple Jaljeera, Aam panna, and pineapple jalapeno margarita. I want to add another recipe of my favorite mocktails—the Tamarind Mango Mocktail! The inspiration for creating this Mocktail came from the famous Mexican drink known as Mangonada. Mangonada is a vibrant and delightful drink with ripe mangoes, chamoy, tamarind candies, and tajin seasoning. It strikes the perfect balance of sweetness, sourness, spiciness, saltiness, and umami, and the Tamarind Mango Mocktail mirrors these pleasant flavor elements. The sweetness in this Mocktail comes from the mango juice, balanced by the tamarind tartness and a little spice kick from the tajin. Additionally, a touch of roasted cumin powder and kala namak gives it that earthy flavor and an Indian touch. This virgin drink is easy to make, fresh, fizzy, tasty, and can be prepared in less than 10 minutes! It’s a non-alcoholic drink that feels super special and festive, making it suitable for all ages. It’s a perfect, tasty, and fun drink for when you want to skip the alcohol but still feel like something fancy! You can serve this drink with water or with sparkling water.
Ingredients
Mango Juice: For this recipe, you have a few options for the mango juice: mango juice or mango nectar. I used Mango nectar purchased from Costco, but you can use Fruity or Mango Maza if you’re in India. It’s important to chill the juice before using it. Spices: For a spicy touch, I like to use Tajin, black salt, and roasted cumin powder for earthy flavors. Adding some mint also brings a fresh taste to the drink. Tamarind pulp: When it comes to tamarind pulp, you can make it yourself or purchase it from the store to make the process easy. I made my own, but you can also find it at Indian stores. Make sure to get tamarind (imli) pulp, not the sweet chutney. Club soda or sparkling water: I used club soda in my recipe, but you can also use sparkling water. You can also serve it in water. It won’t make much difference in the Mango Mocktail, but for the best taste and experience, serve with sparkling water or club soda.
