Ingredients and substitutes

Flour – You’ll need all-purpose flour to make the dough for your pizookie. And if you’re looking for a healthier alternative, you can use whole wheat flour. However, keep in mind that this may affect the texture of your pizookie Sugars – You’ll need granulated sugar for the cookie dough, and brown sugar for the dough’s chewy texture. And if you’re out of brown sugar, you can substitute it with white sugar and molasses. This will give your pizookie a slightly lighter color, but the flavor and texture will remain the same. Butter – This is another essential ingredient. Unsalted butter is best for baking, as it allows you to control the amount of salt in your recipe. However, if you only have salted butter, that will work too. Just be sure to adjust the amount of salt in your recipe accordingly. Vanilla – Vanilla extract is another key ingredient that enhances the flavor of your pizookie. And if you don’t have vanilla extract, you can use almond or maple extract instead.  Chocolate – Unlike regular chocolate, the chocolate chips hold their shape better when baked. And they also keep their form when cooled. And yet, I sometimes prefer to break a chocolate bar. Today, I am using just chocolate chips.

Oven – Preheat the oven to 375℉ 190℃ Gas Mark 5 Combine – In a large mixing bowl, combine your dry ingredients – flour, baking powder, and salt. Whisk them together until they are well combined.

Cream – In a bowl and a whisk, cream your butter and sugars until they are light and fluffy. Next, add the egg making sure to combine well. Finally, add in your vanilla extract and mix until everything is combined.Pro tip – You don’t have to use a mixer for this recipe but you can use the paddle attachment on medium speed. Combine – Now it’s time to add your dry ingredients to your wet ingredients. Slowly pour in your dry ingredients and stir until the mixture forms a dough. Toppings – At this point, you can add in any additional mix-ins such as chocolate chips, nuts, or candy. Once your mix-ins are incorporated, cover the dough and refrigerate for at least an hour.Pro tip – Chilling the dough allows the flavors to meld together and also helps prevent the dough from spreading too much while baking.

Bake – Place your pizookie in the oven on the center rack. Bake for 22-25 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown and the center is slightly underdone.Pro tip – Remember that the pizookie will continue to cook as it cools, so it’s essential to remove it from the oven slightly undercooked. Cool – Remove from the oven and let cool for 10 minutes. Serve warm topped with ice cream.Pro tip – You can also pour some chocolate sauce or caramel sauce on top of the ice cream.

Using the wrong baking dish can result in a burnt or undercooked pizookie, ruining all your hard work. So, make sure to choose a dish that is the right size for your recipe. If the dish is too small, the dough will overflow and spread out too thinly. On the other hand, if the dish is too big, the dough will be too thin and won’t cook evenly. By choosing the right baking dish, you can ensure that your pizookie will come out perfectly every time. Now that you have that sorted out, let’s move on to some tips to take your pizookie to the next level
